SA- Artist Review-Joris Kuipers

Joris Kuipers  -  Born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands (1977), studied at the Frank Mohr Institute (MFA painting department) Groningen 2001/2003, currently working and living in Rotterdam. Kuipers’ work consists of large (room-filling) installations, sculptures and collages. He finds inspiration in historic, scientific and/or anatomic sources ranging from the woodcuts by Andreas Vesalius to CT-scans, MRI-scans, autopsy images and Gunther von Hagens’ plastinations. As in a medical act, Kuipers dissects the body layer by layer. After this fragmentation, the body is rearranged in a non-rational manner in order to reveal new emotional meaning.

I like the fact that most of his works contain a lot of color, but still in consistency.  And I really like hanging things in my work too, so I feel really related to his work.
