Shinique Smith is a contemporary artist who majorly works with painting and installations. She uses old stuffs from her own childhood and others , like toys, socks, books, (etc) to portray memories and emotions attached with those memories. What I love about her work is that just by looking at them, you could feel that the strong emotion behind it, and also the color use is very bold and comfortable. 
I went to her show at Boston MFA. There was a mirror room that I found extremely interesting and beautiful. I like how it feels to stand in that room, looking at your own reflections with her black paint on the wall.
